The New Life Union Mission operates thrift stores in Dyersburg, Halls, and Ripley for two reasons. The first is to provide a place where people who cannot afford to shop at regular retail stores can shop with dignity and purchase the things they need. These are people who do not need and do not want the Mission to give them things. It makes them feel good to know that they can purchase the things they need for themselves or their families. Thrift store pricing makes this possible.
A second reason is to provide income the Mission can use to provide assistance and ministries to people in need along with covering daily operational expenses of the Mission. That is why everyone is welcome to shop. Thrift stores also create jobs for employees who are then able to provide for their families. The stores provide job training for people seeking to enter or re-enter the workforce, opportunities to complete community or school service hours, as well as a wonderful place to volunteer.
